CURRICULUM
St. Henry Catholic School’s curriculum* is balanced, full, challenging yet considerate of each student’s needs and talents, maintaining the tried and true of the “basics” and incorporating the best of the new research-based techniques and practices. The standards of the Diocesan-based curriculum are the basis of the classroom instruction. Those standards, in turn, are closely aligned with the Wisconsin State Standards. Graduates who are well prepared for their high school years have been attesting for decades to the success of the school’s efforts in helping them become the best young people God created them to be.
For the areas of curriculum below, religion classes, prayer, and related activities are daily occurrences in K-8 classrooms. The various components of language arts are given prominence at all grade levels. Mathematics is a core subject at all levels as well. Science and social studies are separate daily subjects in the intermediate and middle school levels; they are interchanged and integrated into the primary children’s day. All the children in grades K-8 receive music and physical education classes twice a week, and special art classes are held for grades 1-8 once a week. Foreign language (Spanish) instruction is added at grades 4-8.
*Definition: Curriculum consists of all the educational experiences planned for the learner (examples: lessons from a textbook, research projects, field trips, creative writing, role-playing, educational TV, planning a liturgy, films, computer time, working in small groups, class discussions, etc.)
